Discourse of

Why does it matter?

Discourse Of is a semi-academic magazine that listens to what beauty, fashion and lifestyle are really saying—once you pay attention to the language, systems, and subtle codes that shape what we see and desire.

We start from the fun stuff: a lipstick launch, a shade name that won’t leave your head. Then we treat each one like a little text, with characters, values and quiet instructions about how a 'good' life, body or face should look. We pull out the key phrases, spot the ideal being sold, and gently ask who’s been edited out of the frame.

The intention isn’t to cancel beauty or fashion. There are already plenty of think‑pieces about what’s wrong with the industry. Instead, Discourse Of sits in the middle ground that’s mostly missing: it keeps the pleasure of beauty and clothes, but adds a soft, usable layer of critical reading. You can still love a lipstick or a dress; we just help you notice the story wrapped around it—and decide whether you want to buy that story too.

There isn’t really a space in mainstream magazines that does this consistently. You get product reviews, trend round‑ups and, separately, heavy academic work on media and body image, but not a place where they meet in a light, readable way. Discourse Of tries to fill that gap with tiny guides, poems and annotated spreads you can take back to your own scrolling and shopping.

We started it because so many of us live inside beauty and fashion feeds every day, feeling both inspired and a bit uneasy—but without simple language to explain why. This magazine is our way of offering that language: not to make you feel bad for liking pretty things, but to give you more choice over which messages you let in, and which scripts you quietly decide to rewrite.
